Two students from the Sports and Adventure Media program had once-in-a-lifetime experiences over the summer: interning and competing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The West Virginia University College of Creative Arts and Media is developing an Extended Reality (XR) Suite, thanks to a gift from WVU alumnus George Singleton (BSJ 1977, Communications Studies, MA 1979) and his wife, Jackie.

WVU Reed College of Media graduates were celebrated alongside graduates of the College of Creative Arts during the joint commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 11, at the WVU Coliseum.

West Virginia University Reed College of Media students placed in four categories, including two first-place wins, at the international Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Festival of Media Arts. This year, BEA received nearly 1,900 submissions from more than 300 participating schools.

Hunner Moore, a West Virginia University Reed College of Media sophomore from Elizabeth City, North Carolina, was one of two recipients of the Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Scholarship. Moore accepted her award during a formal luncheon at The Greenbrier Resort on March 23.

Each year the Reed College of Media seeks nominations and presents alumni awards, including those that recognize lifetime achievement, philanthropic support, service to the College, and demonstrated success within the first 10 years post-graduation. This year’s recipients were recognized at the WVU Reed College of Media’s Spring Honors Ceremony on April 26. The 2023–24 awardees include Shelly Poe (BSJ, 1985), Jacelyn Swenson (BSJ, 1981), Col. Tom Boyd (BSJ, 1971), Joe Webb (BSJ, 1990) and Jennifer Clarke (BSJ, 2015).

Col. Tom Boyd, a 1971 Journalism graduate, has created the WVU Reed College of Media’s first faculty fellowship fund with a $150,000 gift that helped the College shatter its annual Day of Giving record.

As part of Scholastic Journalism Week, Feb. 19-23, the WVU Reed College of Media recognized alumni who began their journalism careers in high school, including Teran Malone (BSJ, 2023), John McPherson (BSJ, 1979; MS Integrated Marketing Communications, 2013), Michael Rinker (BSJ, 2020) and Olivia Sneed (BSJ, 2019).
