Association for Women in Sports Media

AWSM works to promote and increase diversity in sports media through career-enhancement networking and mentoring initiatives as well as the internship/scholarship program – which has placed more than 150 female college students in paid summer positions since 1990.

The Association for Women in Sports Media is a 501(c)(3) organization whose female and male members support the advancement and growth of women – both professional and student – in sports media.

West Virginia University has one of only 20 student chapters of AWSM in the country. AWSM prides itself not only advancing women in sports media, but creating a community of members of all ages and in all areas of the field. As a recognized student chapter, WVU AWSM has access to member-only benefits, such as AWSM’s directory, monthly newsletter and job alerts. Additionally, all student chapters are guided by professional AWSM members, creating plenty of networking and mentorship opportunities. Finally, student chapters allow students at universities with a similar interest in sports media to connect with one another and, hopefully, form valuable friendships and professional relationships that will continue when entering the workforce.

Meetings

AWSM at WVU holds meetings every Tuesday at 6 p.m. via Zoom. During the meetings, AWSM invites guest speakers to ensure members have the opportunity to make connections with women in sports media. Follow @wvu_awsm for upcoming meeting announcements.
