Violins of Hope
Violins of Hope is an international touring organization commemorating lives lost and affected by the Holocaust.
During World War 2, prisoners in European concentration camps performed on violins under constant threat of death. Sometimes performing on these instruments saved the musicians from certain death. Many times, only the violin survived these horrors.
Fifty years later, these violins began appearing at the late Amnon Weinstein’s violin shop in Israel, many in disrepair. These grief-filled instruments arrived at his shop via the relatives and friends of the violinists who had played them in the concentration camps. One by one, Amnon began restoring the violins and putting them back into the hands of performing violinists.
