Well, the final show has come and gone. We all definitely felt the end of class, semester and for many of us college creeping around the corner. I was still proud of how everyone kept their focus for this show though. Everyone easily could have slacked off and let the time of year get to them, but everyone really worked hard for their packages, and it showed. On edit day, the producer team decided we wanted to try some different things for the final show. That included different camera shots in the studio and movement for our main anchors. It didn’t mean much in terms of writing the script, but I knew that come tape day, it would be something that would need practice.
While writing the script, I tried really hard to work on the one thing that has been hard for me this semester which was grammar and punctuation. I have continued transcribing and formatting each package's script separately to make sure the formatting is correct. I also put the whole script through spellcheck to make sure everything was correct. Putting 50 pages through spellcheck was a lot, but ultimately, it helped out in the long run.
At the studio, everyone did well, studio practice went well, and the anchors picked up the camera changes quickly. We did two takes of the show and although take second was the best take, the first run-through could have easily been the take we used as well. Once again, technically everything clicked. I think it helps that many of us have prior experience on the technical side of production.
Everyone grew as a journalist one way or another. Alanna Guertin
Overall, I am really proud of everyone, not just this show but for the whole semester. Everyone grew as a journalist one way or another. I’m really proud of where my associate producer Devin and I have come from show one to now, and I can’t wait to see how we continue to grow. For most of us including myself, Playbook was our last college class. It’s been a great four years, but I can’t wait to see where everyone thrives after college. Producer Alanna Guertin signing off.
