
Jake Voight
Jake is a highly active educator and performer currently based in Morgantown, West Virginia. Having spent much of his career in Michigan, he has coached some of the top high school performing ensembles throughout the state within both the concert, world, and marching arts. Jake has also participated as a front ensemble consultant for many different marching ensembles throughout the country as a marching electronics specialist.
As a performer, Jake has been a part of numerous performing ensembles; Most notably being a founding member of the “Magnificent 7” percussion ensemble who went on a national tour to many high schools, community outreach centers, and concert halls. The Magnificent 7 also premiered the percussion ensemble work “Every Way But Forward” by Patrick Fitzgibbon. Jake has also been associated with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps in San Antonio, Texas as a front ensemble member for their 2020 season.
Jake's expertise extends to his role as a percussion specialist for Harmonic Percussion, where he actively engages in instrument rentals, audio design, and percussion education. This multifaceted involvement showcases his commitment to enriching the musical experiences of students and professionals alike. In the realm of musical theatre, Jake has played a vital role in numerous SE Michigan productions. His percussion skills contribute to the rhythmic pulse of Broadway hits and the nuanced beats of classical masterpieces, enhancing the overall theatrical experience.
Jake spends his free time film scoring and composing. His most notable work to date has been the short film “Party Slasher”- a Halloween horror film and his most recent project “Double Oh, Blunder”- a James Bond Parody. Additionally, He recently had his first solo for steel pan published with C. Alan Publications. Jake is currently pursuing his Masters degree in both Percussion Performance and Musicology from West Virginia University, where he is also serving as a Graduate Assistant in the Musicology Department. Much of Jake’s training has taken place at Oakland University under the tutelage of Mark Stone, Dan Maslanka, Patrick Fitzgibbon, Chinelo Amen-Ra, and Justin Lamb. He has also had the pleasure of studying under Jerome Balsab and Tijan Dorwana at the Dagara Music Center in Medie, Ghana. From Oakland, he earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Technology as well as a minor in World Music.
