Somewhere out there, brothers Jeremiah and Anther return home from fighting in a distant war. Their longing for peace is interrupted by a woman named Phoebe who accuses them of killing her own. She demands reparations – they must pay by becoming her new family. Phoebe's presence changes the very structure of their family, a war that was once far away now threatens to re-ignite inside their home.

Inclusivity Statement:  Phoebe in Winter is a micro narrative set against the macro themes of belonging and war, the power dynamics of gender roles, the pursuit of truth and order in a world of perpetual chaos. Phoebe in Winter allows diverse and inclusive casting.

Into the Woods

  • october 24 – 27, 2024
  • Metropolitan Theatre
  • music, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by James Lapine
  • directed by ryan scoble

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Inclusivity Statement: Into The Woods deeply examines the concept of “happily ever after” and showcases what happens when our wishes are granted. This show also explores humanity through complex and nuanced interpersonal relationships. Because these characters exist in a fantasy world and the writers of this piece prioritized the characters’ journeys of self-discovery over determining their physical characteristics, this show allows for diverse and inclusive casting.
