Bob Kittle
Robert A. Kittle is a graduate of WVU’s P.I. Reed School of Journalism. He was the longtime editorial page editor of The San Diego Union-Tribune and was a frequent commentator on the PBS NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and other network news programs. Earlier in his career he was the White House correspondent for U.S. News & World Report. He also served as the magazine’s congressional and Pentagon correspondents. Beginning his career at the Charleston Daily Mail, he became the newspaper’s first Washington bureau chief. After making a post-retirement transition to historian, Kittle authored two books on Spain’s colonization of California in the 18th century. He speaks Spanish, Italian, and German. The highlight of his professional life came early, when he was editor-in-chief of the Daily Athenaeum, 1974-‘75.
