Generative AI products are disrupting content creation across media and creative and performing arts. Whether you are a musician, artist, performer, designer, or media professional – and whether you are excited, curious, or anxious about Generative AI - understanding copyright and IP is critical for understanding the impacts in your field. Dozens of copyright lawsuits have been brought against the developers of generative AI models, and the stakes are huge. Copyright law theoretically allows for the destruction of infringing copies, including possibly some models. This talk will explore the leading theories plaintiffs allege in these lawsuits, as well as early rulings that provide some indication of how judges might ultimately weigh these arguments and what that means for your own work.
