Since 1983, Mountain Stage has been the home of live music on public radio. Produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting and distributed by NPR Music, each two-hour episode of Mountain Stage can be heard every week on nearly around 270 stations across America, and around the world via NPR Music and mountainstage.org.
In September 2021, W.Va. native and Grammy winning performer Kathy Mattea became the host of Mountain Stage, a role assumed from co-founder and artistic director Larry Groce, who hosted more than 900 episodes over a remarkable 38 year career. Occasionally our listeners will hear guest-host David Mayfield, an accomplished Ohio-based instrumentalist, songwriter and singer, standing in for Kathy.
