Brian Fickel
Brian Fickel is a passionate executive communications advisor, spokesperson, speechwriter, and educator with almost 20 years of strategic communications and public relations experience at the highest levels of the U.S. Army.
He currently serves as director of public and congressional affairs at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. He also teaches the “Senior Leader Communication” graduate elective.
Fickel retired from the U.S. Army in June 2022 after serving as director of the Army Public Affairs Center at Fort Meade, Maryland, where he was the executive agent for the chief of public affairs and oversaw doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel, facilities, and policy for the entire Army Public Affairs career field.
Throughout his military career, he advised four-star and senior mission commanders, including as public affairs advisor to the chief of staff of the United States Army, the commander of U.S. Forces–Iraq, and the commander of U.S. Central Command. His operational assignments include multiple deployments to Iraq (2008–2011) and Afghanistan (2017–2018).
Fickel develops and delivers training on presentation skills, media interviews, congressional engagement, and strategic messaging for senior leaders and organizations. He is known for his enthusiastic and energetic approach to helping leaders and organizations communicate with clarity and confidence.
Fickel's academic achievements include a Bachelor of Arts in Policy Studies from Dickinson College, a Master of Arts in Management from Webster University, a Master of Science in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from Georgetown University, and a Master of Science in Strategic Studies with a cybersecurity concentration from the US Army War College.
