Cynthia Babin Anderson is Professor of Oboe at West Virginia University. She received her bachelor'sdegree from Northwestern University in Chicago and her master's degree from the Manhattan School ofMusic in New York City. Her principal teachers were Ray Still, Principal Oboist with the ChicagoSymphony Orchestra, Joseph Robinson, Principal Oboist with the New York Philharmonic and ThomasStacy, Solo English Horn with the New York Philharmonic. She is a member of the Pittsburgh Opera andPittsburgh Ballet Theatre Orchestras, the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, solo oboe/English horn with thePittsburgh CLO Orchestra and Broadway Across America/Pittsburgh Orchestra, and is a frequentperformer with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. She is indemand as a chamber musician as well, performing with the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh, ResonanceWorks Chamber Orchestra, and the Wheeling Symphony Wind Quintet. She is a founding member of theWVU Faculty Chamber Players, and founder and principal arranger for the WVU Double ReedEnsemble, which performs classical and pops repertoire throughout WV. With double reed colleagues atWVU, she has initiated the WVU Statewide Studio, an organization that makes double reed instruments,reeds, and lessons available at no charge to school students throughout West Virginia. She has performedwith orchestras and chamber ensembles in Italy, Mexico, and the Netherlands.
