David Smith is a Teaching Associate Professor at the West Virginia University College of Creative Arts and Media, where he has taught courses in visual journalism, video for social media, brand storytelling, drone journalism, augmented and virtual reality (AR & VR) and international study abroad.

His creative and professional work ranges from traditional photojournalism and videography to experimental and emerging technology, including augmented reality, social virtual reality and VR film. 

Before joining the faculty at WVU 2013, he was a visual journalist for several news organizations in North and South Carolina, Alabama, Ohio, and West Virginia. He is a graduate of Randolph Community College (A.A.S.) and West Virginia University (B.A. and M.A.).
