Dr. Jason B. Gossett is an Associate Professor in instrumental music education at West Virginia University, the Associate Director of the School of Music, and Director of Undergraduate Studies. He currently teaches Instrumental Methods, Percussion Pedagogy, graduate coursework, and supervises student teachers. Prior to entering higher education, Dr. Gossett spent 10 years as a high school band director in Kentucky. Bands under his direction consistently earned Distinguished ratings in both concert and marching performances. His marching bands consistently performed at high levels, earning a spot in the KMEA state finals. 

He holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master’s and Bachelor’s in Music Education from Murray State University. An active researcher, Dr. Gossett presents research at regional, state, and national music conferences. His research focuses on teacher agency as well as the application of values in teaching. 

Prior to his appointment at WVU, Dr. Gossett was an instructor of music education at Oregon State University, where he taught music education classes and was Assistant Director of Athletic Bands.Dr. Gossett is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE), and serves as the President-Elect for the West Virginia Music Educators Association.
