Kate Brittingham

School of Theatre and Dance

Kate Brittingham is the Scene Shop Manager for the School of Theatre and Dance. She supervises undergraduate and graduate students alike in all aspects of scenic, paint, and prop construction focusing on their safety in the Canady Creative Arts Center’s Upper and Lower Scene Shops. Prior to appointment at WVU, Brittingham worked in regional theatres as Properties Master: Signature Theatre (Arlington, VA), Olney Theatre Center, Chautauqua Opera, Theatre Baton Rouge, LOOK Musical Theatre, Swine Palace, and Greenbrier Valley Theatre. Favourite prop productions include Blackbeard: The Musical (Signature Theatre, Arlington); In the Heights (Olney Theatre Center: Helen Hayes Award for Best Production 2017); and Frankenstein (Swine Palace). In addition to her duties at WVU, Brittingham often works for West Virginia Public Theatre and Main Street Theatre Company as Properties Coordinator. She builds custom furniture and hand props for regional theatre productions including the most recent Bridges of Madison County at Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA.

Brittingham holds a Master of Fine Arts in Properties Technology from Louisiana State University. She has the utmost pleasure of serving as the Instructor of Record for the Stage Properties course for the School of Theatre & Dance. In Spring of 2024, Brittingham presented a workshop on Upholstery at USITT in Seattle. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from California University of Pennsylvania. She is a proud member of the Society of Properties Mangers and USITT. A native of the region, Kate is thrilled to be back in her home among the hills to inspire the next generation of theatre artists.
