Dr. Teri Giobbia is Associate Professor and Coordinator of Art Education. She received her Ph.D. degree in Art & Design Education from Northern Illinois University and earned a BS in Art from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Education. Her research interests include design and technology education in secondary school curriculum; Fashion as Public Art; and the hybrid identity of American youth as seen through their clothing. Dr. Giobbia’s articles on curriculum, instruction and assessment have appeared in numerous international and national art journals and publications. She has a variety of grants that have funded opportunities that have benefited the citizens of West Virginia, including her Magic Traveling Art Bus project funded through the National Endowment for the Arts and the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History and the National Art Education Foundation’s Mary McMullan Grant. Her book, Fashion fundamentals (2019) available through DavisArt.com, provides a history of the fashion industry and project-based activities, which promote collaboration, problem solving and critical thinking that can be customized to a variety of teaching styles and classroom environments. She is a member of the National Art Education Association, the International Society of Educators through Art and Carnegie Mellon’s Arts in Society Research Network and the West Virginia Art Education Association and has presented at numerous conferences associated with these organizations. Prior to joining WVU, Dr. Giobbia taught fine and applied arts in the K-12 classroom and art education at Northern Illinois University outside of Chicago, IL.
