Dr. Whit Emerson (he/him) holds a PhD in Theatre History, Theory, and Literature from Indiana University. He has previously taught Theatre History, Text Analysis, Production Dramaturgy and other courses at the State University of New York at Oswego and Middle Tennessee State University. His research investigates how the work of theatre artists construct identities that reflect the modern global city of Hong Kong. Asian Theatre Journal, Theatre Topics and The Theatre Times have published his performance and book reviews. Emerson’s academic and creative interests center on East Asian Performance, global and historical avant-garde theatre, intercultural performance, stage combat, and the role of art in shaping social identity. As an actor, director, and fight choreographer, Dr. Emerson has worked professionally for theater companies and universities in New York, Kansas, Florida, Indiana, and West Virginia.
