Dr. Cal brings 20 years of advertising education and integrated marketing strategy experience to WVU.

Cal’s integrated marketing and communications expertise prepares her proficiency in integrated marketing and communications, coupled with a demonstrated aptitude for analyzing and resolving marketing challenges at both strategic and tactical levels, has garnered recognition. Additionally, her extensive international experience further enhances her skill set.

Over the course of her academic career, Cal has taught numerous students in mass communication, advertising and marketing and advised student groups which have competed in national advertising campaign competitions. Her research interests include the study of women and minority roles in leadership in advertising and PR.

Throughout her career, Cal has also worked in strategic marketing, PR, and event management for regional and international clients, including developing a communications strategy for a USAID consultancy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Her teaching has also led her to Berlin, Germany, where she led a study abroad in which students explored European advertising and public relations.

A native of Alabama, Cal enjoys tropical gardening, hunting for bargains online, and University of Alabama football.

Dr. Cal holds a Ph.D. in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin and was awarded the Ray T Hall scholarship for creativity. Before coming to WVU, she also served as assistant dean in the College of International Communication at Lynn University as well as taught on the faculties of Alabama State University, Loyola University New Orleans, and Florida International University.
