Apply to WVU

Get Started

We're excited for you to join our WVU Reed School community, where you'll experience a tight-knit environment with the resources of a large university.

As part of the College of Creative Arts and Media, Media and Communications students are able to hone their craft while collaborating across disciplines with other students and faculty.

In-person or Online

Our in-person Journalism master's degree program offers areas of emphasis in advocacy and public interest, digital publishing, media solutions and innovation, reporting and writing, television, or visual journalism. The program is small with a lot of one-on-one mentorship with faculty. Contact Diana Martinelli at diana.martinelli@mail.wvu.edu to discuss your options.

The Reed School also offers three nationally-renowned fully online master's degree programs in Data, Digital, or Integrated Marketing Communications. Courses are taught by industry professionals, and more than half of our alumni have received pay increases of 25% of more since graduating according to a recent survey. Learn More.

  1. Step One:

Know what you need to apply.

You will need to include a résumé, official academic transcripts and pay the $60 nonrefundable application fee. Online master's degree students are asked to submit a personal statement and MSJ students must submit 3-5 examples of published work. The GRE/GMAT is only required for MSJ students with a cumulative undergrad GPA lower that 3.2. It is NOT required for the online master's degree programs. International students must provide TOEFL or IELTS Scores - find detailed application information in the International Applications section.

  2. Step Two:

    Request official transcripts.

Contact your prior academic institutions and request that official academic transcripts be sent via postal mail or electronic delivery, directly to:
    WVU Office of Graduate Admissions
    One Waterfront Place
    PO Box 6510
    Morgantown, WV 26506-6510
    Email: GraduateAdmissions@mail.wvu.edu
    Phone: 304-293-2121

NOTE: If you are a WVU Alumni, you do not need to submit transcripts as they are already on file.

  3. Step Three:

    Start your application.
