This weeklong, in-residence dance program is geared toward dancers for teens and current college students interested in furthering their dance training. The faculty includes current WVU Dance Program instructors as well as a variety of guest artists who will include past or present Paul Taylor Dance Company members. The program will offer dance technique classes, classes in wellness and conditioning, and other movement-related classes.
This weeklong day program focuses on dance and movement training and exploration. The program is geared towards children ages 5-11 years old, with little to no previous dance experience. The program offers exquisite instruction by current students and alumni of the WVU Dance Program who have all been hand-picked specifically to work with your child.
If you are a returning Summer Dance Academy participant, supporting parent or guardian, or a prospective newcomer, I thank you for your interest in the WVU School of Theatre and Dance 2026 Summer Dance Academy (SDA). On behalf of all of us who make SDA happen year after year, I welcome you to our website. This year marks the 16th year for SDA.
We look forward to another exciting and stimulating week of dance. As in past years, we will be presenting a wide variety of classes. In keeping with our mission, we will continue to offer an exciting lineup of classes taught by gifted and experienced faculty, including members of the WVU Dance Program and guest artists from far and near.
This year, we continue our connection to the acclaimed Paul Taylor Dance Company (PTDC). The WVU SDA will partner with the Taylor School and feature additional classes that celebrate the artistry and mastery of Paul Taylor. Current and past company members will be part of the SDA faculty to teach technique and repertory, and to give presentations that focus on this celebrated American dance artist, his craft, and legacy.
