With 180 students working in four theatres, six shops and four labs to produce 8 –10 shows per year, West Virginia University is an exciting and vibrant place to study and practice the art and craft of theatre and dance. We're excited for you to join our WVU School of Theatre and Dance community, where you'll experience a tight-knit academic environment with the resources of a large university.

As part of the College of Creative Arts and Media, Theatre and Dance students are able to hone their craft while collaborating across disciplines with other students and faculty.

  1. Step One:

    Apply to WVU

    All students must complete West Virginia University's application online. Visit apply.wvu.edu for admission standards and application details. Indicate on your WVU application that you are interested in a College of Creative Arts and Media major. 

    Current WVU students who seek to change their major to the School of Theatre and Dance should contact their current academic advisor to begin the process; you do not need to re-apply to WVU.

  2. Step Two:

    Schedule Your Audition or Portfolio Review

    Students interested in Musical Theatre, Dance, Acting, and Theatre Design and Technology must participate in an audition or portfolio review.

  3. Step Three:

    Register for Classes

    Upon acceptance to the WVU School of Theatre and Dance, an advisor will contact you to register for courses.

Casting Policy

Only students enrolled in and pursuing either a major (BA, BFA, MFA, and MDS) or minor within the School of Theatre & Dance are eligible to audition for Main Stage and Falbo Series productions.

Places and Spaces

Learn, rehearse, collaborate and perform in a variety of studios and concert theatres in the Canady Creative Arts Center.

Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre

The Clay Concert Theatre is used by the College of Creative Arts as well as WVU's Arts and Entertainment series. As the largest venue in the CCAC, it hosts music concerts, musical theatre performances, dance performances, and of course, graduations.

Antoinette E. Falbo Theatre

The Falbo Theatre hosts opera performances, dance concerts and theatre classes. A movable seating bank for 200 allows the space to be customized for each audience.

Dance Studio at E. Moore Hall

The WVU Dance Studio, located on the top floor of historic Elizabeth Moore Hall on the downtown campus, boasts a 40' x 30' Marley floor and arched windows for plenty of natural light.

Gladys G. Davis Theatre

The Davis Theatre creates an immersive experience for actors and audiences in 3 to 4 School of Theatre & Dance productions each year.

Sets that create atmosphere in School of Theatre & Dance productions are designed and built on-site by our theatre students and faculty.

Vivian Davis Michael Laboratory Theatre

The Vivian Davis Michael Laboratory Theatre is used for alternative style works, as well as traditional smaller pieces.
