WVU's Theatre & Dance Scholarship through the 2024 FREDDY Awards. Registration is now open!
WVU Theatre & Dance is excited to participate with this year’s FREDDY© Awards! The award presented will provide a scholarship from WVU and the School of Theatre Dance, which when combined with other awards from West Virginia University, will be equivalent to the cost of university tuition. The award is renewable over 8 semesters of study. The Application will open on March 1st and close on May 9th.
Students interested in enrolling in WVU School of Theatre and Dance in the Fall of 2025 as Musical Theatre or Design & Technology majors are encouraged to apply.
Below are the requirements for the audition and portfolio submissions. Students interested in participating must submit the application by May 13th at 4:00 p.m. Auditions will be scheduled for the afternoon of May 21st beginning at 2:00 p.m. and will be live at the State Theatre in Easton, PA.
*To ensure that the scholarship program is competitive, this scholarship program requires a minimum of 5 applicants, and that at least one applicant meets the program admissions standards as determined by the faculty, based on the audition or portfolio review. If one or both of the criteria are not met, participants will be notified by WVU College of Creative Arts.

Musical Theatre
Songs and Monologues

Two contrasting songs that show both your acting and vocal range and ability: One up tempo and one ballad.

One of those selections should feature the entire song while the second should be a 32 bar cutting (which number is in its entirety and which is a cutting is the candidate’s choice). Selections should be memorized for performance.

Please know the shows from which you are choosing the songs to show your understanding of the character and motivations behind the song.

A one-minute monologue fully-realized and memorized.
Dance
- We will be conducting a live dance call as part of the audition on May 21st. Please bring dance attire with you. The dance call will be approx. 30 minutes, and no prepared materials are needed.
Theatre Design and Technology
We are looking to understand your previous experience in theatre and related areas in a portfolio. Show photos of productions you have worked on. If possible, include process photos of the specific things you did. The portfolio may also include any artwork, craft or construction projects which illustrate your interests and talent.
Requirements
- You must be currently attending a school that is participating in the 2024 Freddy Awards.
- You must be in either your junior or senior year (if a senior student, please note the scholarship will not be available until Fall of 2024)
