Undergraduate Auditions and Portfolio Reviews

Schedule your audition or portfolio review for acceptance into one of our degree programs in the School of Music, the School of Theatre and Dance, or select programs in the School of Art and Design, including the Art and Design BFA, Art Education BFA or Art Therapy BA.

The following undergraduate majors do NOT require a portfolio or audition: those in the Reed School of Media and Communications including Advertising and Public Relations, Integrated Marketing Communications, Journalism, Multidisciplinary Media Studies and Sports and Adventure Media; Art History and Museum Professions, Design Studies, Fashion Design and Merchandising, Game Design and Interactive Media, and Interior Architecture.

2025 Audition and Portfolio Review Dates

  • While registration for our audition day events has closed, we will continue to review students using the options provided below. 
  • On-Campus Auditions: We are continuing to schedule on-campus auditions for music and theatre (excluding the BFA Musical Theatre program which will accept video submissions only going forward), and on-campus portfolio reviews for Theatre Design and Technology.
  • Virtual Auditions: Video auditions will be accepted through our Acceptd portal for all programs, along with portfolio submissions for theatre design & technology and BFA Art & Design programs.

Students interested in attending the WVU College of Creative Arts and Media to pursue a degree in the School of Music, the School of Theatre and Dance, or select programs in the School of Art and Design are required to participate in an audition or portfolio review for their respective program. Whenever possible, we encourage students to attend a live audition or portfolio day event. Private auditions/reviews as well as video options vary by studio.

Steps to apply to the College of Creative Arts and Media

  1. Complete the West Virginia University Application.
  2. Register for your audition or portfolio review. Whenever possible, we encourage students to attend a live audition or portfolio day event, typically held in January/February. Private auditions/reviews as well as video options vary by studio.
  3. Review the audition and portfolio review requirements for your program.

You may secure your interview time before or after your University application is completed. An admission decision for your program cannot be made until after you have been admitted to West Virginia University.

Register for Your POrtfolio review or Audition

Get prepared by reviewing the audition and portfolio review requirements for your program. If applying to a BFA Art and Design or Theatre program, you must submit media via SlideRoom prior to coming to campus. Media uploads must be submitted at least two days prior to your interview.

School of Art and Design

Students in the Art and Design BFA, and Art Education BFA must submit a portfolio review for admission into those programs.

School of Music

All Music programs require an audition.

School of Theatre and Dance

Students interested in Musical Theatre, Dance, Acting, and Theatre Design and Technology must participate in an audition or portfolio review.
