Undergraduate Auditions and Portfolio Reviews

Schedule your audition or portfolio review for acceptance into one of our degree programs. Almost all programs in the Schools of Art and Design, Music, and Theatre and Dance require an audition or portfolio review.

The following undergraduate majors do NOT require a portfolio or audition: those in the Reed School of Media and Communications including Advertising and Public Relations, Integrated Marketing Communications, Journalism, Multidisciplinary Media Studies and Sports and Adventure Media; Art History and Museum Professions, Art Therapy, Design Studies, Fashion Design and Merchandising, Game Design and Interactive Media, Interior Architecture, and Music Business and Industry.

2025 Audition and Portfolio Review Dates

  • Saturday, January 25, 2025
  • Saturday, February 8, 2025
Registration for Fall 2025 auditions will open on September 1, 2024.

Students interested in attending WVU College of Creative Arts and Media to pursue a degree in the School of Music, or a BFA program in the School of Art and Design and School of Theatre and Dance are required to participate in an audition or portfolio review for their respective program. Whenever possible, we encourage students to attend a live audition or portfolio day event. Private auditions/reviews as well as video options vary by studio.

Steps to apply to the College of Creative Arts and Media

  1. Complete the West Virginia University Application.
  2. Schedule your audition. Information for Fall 2025 will be available soon. Fall 2024 applicants should email James Froemel at jfroemel@mail.wvu.edu.
  3. Review the audition and portfolio review requirements for your program. Submit your audition videos or portfolio media through the respective upload links below.

You may secure your interview time before or after your University application is completed. An admission decision for your program cannot be made until after you have been admitted to West Virginia University.

Schedule Your POrtfolio review or Audition

Get prepared by reviewing the audition and portfolio review requirements for your program. If applying to a BFA Art and Design or Theatre program, you must submit media via SlideRoom prior to coming to campus. Media uploads must be submitted at least two days prior to your interview.

School of Art and Design

Students in the Art and Design BFA and Art Education BFA programs require a portfolio review.

Theatre Programs

All Theatre programs require an audition or portfolio review, with the exception of the Theatre BA.

Dance Program

Admission into the Dance program requires an audition.

Multidisciplinary Studies Program

Admission into the Multidisciplinary Studies program requires an interview.
