WVU School of Music composition applicants should provide the following prior to their interview:
-
Two to three pieces that you have written. Recordings are strongly encouraged (they can be midi realizations or recorded performances). All styles are acceptable. We recommend that the pieces contrast in their instrumentation (i.e. if you have one piece for solo piano, try to include a piece that has different instruments).
-
Please provide a notated score for at least one composition (more if possible).
Compositions can be created in digital audio workstations.
Please note that the music composition degree requires an interview with composition faculty and an instrumental or voice audition in addition to the composition portfolio submission.
Contact Dr. Jake Sandridge at jsandrid@mail.wvu.edu for information about how to submit your portfolio and to schedule your instrumental audition. Please feel free to reach out if you need advice in putting together your portfolio or if you have additional questions about the program or audition requirements.
