Amelia Courses

Based on the courses students select they will gain experience at Amelia’s Historic Archives, participate in conservation projects at the Archeological Museum, have access to the Lapidarium at the Town Hall, work with material from the Colosseum, and have other opportunities available within the town.

Session 1

Courses are co-requisites.

  • SPTP ARHS 493 Professional Field Experience: Restoration of Historic Stone Monuments in Italy. 3 Hours. AND
  • SPTP ARHS 493. Professional Field Experience: Restoration of Historic Stone Monuments Workshop. 3 Hours
  • ARHS 459. Professional Field Experience: Restoration: Theory, Ethics, and Issues. 2 Hours.
  • ARHS 455 Professional Field Experience: Paper Media and Restoration Methods for Artworks. 3 Hours. AND
  • ARHS 456 Professional Field Experience: Handwritten & Printed Archival Materials Restoration Methods. 3 Hours.
  • ARHS 454 Professional Field Experience: Sketching and Analyzing Historic Buildings in Italy. 3 Hours. AND
  • SPTP ARHS 493 Surveying Methods in Architecture: From Measuring Tape to Laser Scanning. 3 Hours.
  • ARHS 457 Professional Field Experience: Traditional Painting Materials, Methods, & Restoration Issues. 3 Hours. AND
  • ARHS 458 Professional Field Experience: Traditional Painting Workshop. 3 Hours. AND
  • ARHS 459. Professional Field Experience: Restoration: Theory, Ethics, and Issues. 2 Hours.

  • ARHS 422 Professional Field Experience: Restoration of Archaeological Ceramics. 3 Hours.
  • ARHS 451 Professional Field Experience: Introduction to the History and Craft of Book Bindings. 3 Hours. AND
  • ARHS 452 Professional Field Experience: Intro to Preservation and Preventive Conservation of Books. 3 Hours.
  • ARHS 457 Professional Field Experience: Traditional Painting Materials, Methods, & Restoration Issues. 3 Hours. AND
  • ARHS 458 Professional Field Experience: Traditional Painting Workshop. 3 Hours. AND
  • ARHS 459. Professional Field Experience: Restoration: Theory, Ethics, and Issues. 2 Hours.


The Architectural Painted Surfaces: Conservation & Restoration of Fresco and Secco Wall Paintings program is suitable for both early-career and established professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of architectural painted surface conservation and restoration.

  • SPTP ARHS 593: Introduction to Fresco and Secco Wall Paintings. 3 Hours AND
  • SPTP ARHS 593: Wall Paintings Techniques Workshop. 3 Hours.


In addition to applying to WVU, students will also need to fill out an application with Amelia International Conservation Studies.
