West Virginia University Viola Day is an annual event known across the country since 2013 for bringing violists of all ages and backgrounds together for a one-day celebration. It is a great opportunity for violists to learn from world-class artists/teachers, perform, and connect with others who share their passion for the viola.
Past participants have come from around the region: Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Florida, New Jersey, North Carolina, and West Virginia. All ages are welcome. Activities are primarily geared towards violists of an intermediate to advanced level of performance, but everyone with an interest in the viola is invited. Adult supervision is required for students 12 and under.
You can register online for a reduced rate before the event. The registration fee is $25 if you register on or before October 18.
If you miss the online early-bird registration deadline, you can still register online until the day of the event for $30. On the day of the event, payments can be made online or with cash or check. If paying by check, make the check payable to “WVU” with “Viola Day” in the memo line.
Please let us know of your interest on the registration form. You can also email Prof. Houde with questions or to propose potential repertoire. Space is limited, but every effort will be made to include as many participants as possible. All ages and levels are invited to participate.
Houde is Associate Professor of Viola and String Area Coordinator at West Virginia University. She serves on the artist faculty of the Interlochen Arts Camp and was a board member of the American Viola Society.
