Bands
The WVU Bands program serves nearly five hundred students in five ensembles: Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Bands, Mountaineer Marching Band and Pep Band. These ensembles provide professional training for music education and performance majors, while also serving as a performance outlet for wind and percussion players throughout the university community, regardless of major.

The WVU Symphony Orchestra, a national award-winning ensemble, is known for its outstanding performances of standard and innovative programs. WVUSO presents six to eight programs a year and trains students to perform at the highest level of artistic expression and technical expertise.

Participants in the Jazz Ensemble will learn standard jazz repertoire through collaboration. All the musicians learn how to play music with lead sheets, basic jazz harmony, and as a group.

The WVU World Music Ensembles are a dynamic way to be artistically engaged while exploring diverse musical cultures on campus. These ensembles include the WVU African Music and Dance Ensemble, the WVU Steel Band, the WVU Taiko Ensemble, the WVU Gamelan Ensemble, and the WVU Brazilian Ensemble and the WVU Bluegrass Band.

A variety of chamber ensembles feature combinations of woodwinds, brass, percussion, and string instruments and include the internationally acclaimed Percussion Ensemble, the WVU Graduate String Quartet, the WVU Graduate Woodwind Quintet, the WVU Chamber Winds, Guitar Ensembles, and the New Music Ensemble.
