Bass Studio

West Virginia University Bass students participate in a wide range of musical activities that go well beyond weekly lessons. They play in ensembles ranging from jazz to bluegrass to concert band to orchestra, and have even served a drum majors for The Pride of West Virginia. Grads don't just play classical bass; they have gone on to run sound in clubs, play musical theatre, teach in schools, fund-raise for non-profits, and play all manner of popular musical styles.

Bassoon Studio

The Bassoon Studio at West Virginia University is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students who seek to engage, inspire, and empower others through study and performance of music on the bassoon. Through collaboration and mentorship with Professor Andy Sledge, bassoon students at WVU develop the necessary skills to realize and pursue their musical and professional goals.

Brass

Each WVU Brass faculty member brings diverse musical experiences, perspectives and skillsets to the program and is dedicated to tailoring their instruction to the individual needs and career aspirations of our students. Our goal is to help guide and mentor students on their musical journey, giving them the tools and resources to succeed in their desired career paths.

Cello Studio

We are an inclusive and collaborative community of cellists that value a well-rounded approach to artistic excellence. We have a warm, fun, and focused studio, and we prioritize growing as cellists and as people with integrity and creativity. Members and alumni of our studio are quite active, both on and off-campus. Our alumni teach and perform here and abroad.

Flute Studio

The WVU flute studio is a community of ambitious, dedicated, and fun-loving students who are supportive in their interactions and excel in their academic and musical studies. There are approximately 15-19 flute students in the studio including undergraduate flute majors, flute minors, masters, and doctoral students.

Horn Studio

The West Virginia University Horn Studio, led by horn professor Albert Houde, consists of undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students who are encouraged to be creative, diversely talented and open minded in their ongoing pursuit of their musical dreams.

The West Virginia University Saxophone Studio, led by saxophone professor Jeff Siegfried, consists of undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students who are encouraged to pursue the full spectrum of stylistic and artistic possibilities that the saxophone offers in the ongoing pursuit of their musical dreams.

Trombone Studio

The trombone studio at West Virginia University is a collection of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students engaged in innovation in their chosen fields. An inclusive community of majors from across campus provides a passionate and caring environment for all students to hone their craft and work towards leading the way in the arts and their individual degree paths.

Trumpet Studio

The trumpet studio at West Virginia University is an inclusive musical community of students from wide variety of majors at undergraduate and graduate levels. Students are encouraged to be entrepreneurial minded, versatile, and open to creating musical experiences and opportunities for themselves and others. Trumpet study is catered to support each student's individual interests and goals.

Violin Studio

The violin studio at WVU welcomes violinists from all backgrounds to a warm and inclusive environment where we encourage and challenge each other to grow as musicians and individuals. Whether your goal is to play in a professional orchestra, teach strings in public schools, or become a music therapist, we will work together so you can achieve your dreams.

The String Area at West Virginia University is committed to each student reaching their fullest potential as musicians, professionals, and artists. In addition to weekly lessons, we offer regular studio classes, all-string area seminars, guest artist masterclasses, chamber music coaching, and many other collaborative opportunities designed to develop musicianship, sustainable habits, and artistic creativity for a long-lived career in music.
