West Virginia University Dance students will take the stage for the final performance of spring 2025 with “Showcase of Dance,” May 1-3, in the Antoinette E. Falbo Theatre at the Canady Creative Arts Center. Featuring styles from tap to contemporary dance, the show provides a sneak-peak of the senior dancers right before they begin their professional careers.
“It’s a strong, dynamic show with something for everyone: fun, emotional, and thought-provoking pieces,” said Ainsley Meadows, a senior dual major in Dance and Advertising in the WVU College of Creative Arts and Media. “Artists play such an important role in shaping culture and community, and performances like this are a chance to celebrate that.”
Seventeen students choreographed numbers for the 2025 “Showcase of Dance,” selecting the style, dancers and songs.
“We’re given full creative control, which is both exciting and challenging,” said Meredith Ballard, a junior Dance major. “Throughout the semester, faculty showings provide valuable feedback that helps shape and refine our work. I was personally drawn to 'Million Reasons’ by Lady Gaga early in the year and knew I wanted to tell a personal story through a contemporary dance to the song.”
Allowing students to produce the spring performance is just one of the ways the Dance program provides opportunities for students to showcase their talent and gain valuable experience they can take into their careers.
“What makes the program special is how equally the faculty and students value each other’s contributions,” Meadows said. “Our faculty are not only amazing educators—they’re our biggest supporters, both in and out of the studio. WVU’s Dance Program gives us so many chances to choreograph and be a part of each other’s work. That’s something not every college dance program offers.”
