Two retired WVU School of Medicine faculty members are embracing their passion for the arts and giving back to the University in a new way — by partnering to support the Art Museum of WVU. Dr. Stephen Wetmore and Dr. Mary Wimmer, both of Morgantown, jointly made a $100,000 gift to create a fund that supports the museum’s greatest needs.

World-renowned opera baritone and WVU School of Music alumnus Michael Chioldi was recently back among the Appalachian Mountains for a run of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Falstaff” at the Pittsburgh Opera. For the Avonmore, Pennsylvania, native, it was like a homecoming. Family members, friends from high school and college, WVU fans and even WVU faculty came to see him perform as the title character.

WVU Theatre Design and Technology major Daney Brookover ended her final year at West Virginia University on a high note. The Ripley, West Virginia, native received multiple awards from the College of Creative Arts and Media in her final semester. Even more impressive, Brookover won the U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) Bernhard R. Works Master Crafts Award.

The WVU College of Creative Arts and Media celebrated the graduation of more than 400 students from the schools of Art and Design, Music, Theatre and Dance and the Reed School of Media and Communications on May 16.

A new course for Sports and Adventure Media (SAM) students in the WVU Reed School of Media and Communications puts them on the sidelines and in the control room to produce a live sports broadcast from start to finish.
