The West Virginia University School of Music welcomed Kyle Gray as an assistant professor of choral music education. Gray earned his PhD in Music Education and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Choral Conducting at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, where he assisted with ensembles in the music education and choral departments.
"I am so excited to join the WVU music community,” Gray said. “I look forward to working with future music educators to empower their development as passionate, skilled leaders who will inspire the next generation of musicians. I am also eager to work with WVU choral musicians to create choral music in a community of creativity and artistry.”
Before pursuing his doctorate, Gray earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Florida and his Master of Music Education from Florida State University. He directed middle and high school choirs in Tampa, Florida, where his students received superior ratings at state adjudication and were often invited to perform at state and regional events. He also serves as a clinical instructor for honor choirs, workshops and professional conferences and has also performed with featured ensembles in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. Gray is also a researcher, whose interests include the impact of digital media on music teachers' professional development.
“We are excited about Kyle’s wealth of experience and the artistry he will bring to the students in the School of Music,” said Jason Gosset, associate professor and coordinator of the Music Education program.
