Financial Aid
There are many types of financial aid and you may qualify for more than one. To get started, complete the FAFSA by following these steps:
- Gather your family's income information.
- File the FAFSA as soon as possible between October 1 and March 1 of the year you plan to attend WVU. Use FAFSA school code 003827 to send your information to WVU's Morgantown campus.
- Once your application is processed by the Federal Processing Center, a notification will be sent to you either electronically (if you included an email address on the application) or by mail in a paper Student Aid Report. If you included our school code on your application, we will receive your information electronically from the Federal Processing Center.
- Review your award and respond within 30 days. If you met the priority filing deadline of March 1, you can expect to receive your WVU financial aid offer in early April.
Pay Your Bill
Paying your bill online is the fastest and easiest way to take care of payment, but there are other payment methods. To view charges and financial aid and to pay your bill online, follow these steps:
- Log into your WVU Portal (with your WVU Login and password)
- Click the STAR button
- Click Student Services & Housing
- Click Student Accounts
- Click Electronic Bill By Term/Make Payment
- Choose the appropriate term and Submit
- This is where you can see your charges, payments, authorized aid (aid that is ready to disburse as payment), memoed aid (third-party contracts, memoed private loans, payment plans, or aid that is not ready to pay that has unsatisfied requirements). Scroll to the bottom of the page to view your "Current Due net of Authorized Financial Aid and Memos" and/or to click Pay Now
- A new window will open; enter the amount you will be paying and Submit
- You are now in the payment screen where you can choose to pay by check or credit card
Waive Insurance
West Virginia University students are required to carry health insurance and you will be automatically enrolled in and charged for health coverage. If you already have health insurance through another provide, be sure to complete the health insurance waiver.
