Mountaineer Playbook announces Fall 2024 news team, producers

“Mountaineer Playbook,” a sports magazine show produced by Sports and Adventure Media students in the Reed School of Media and Communications, has announced their Fall 2024 news team. 

The show’s main anchors are Patrick Walsh (SR, Macedon, New York) and Jackie Guenther (SR, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), with Terrell Thompson (SR, Cincinnati, Ohio) anchoring the Coach’s Corner and Andrew Fried (SR, Long Island, New York) serving as the Adventure anchor. Zach Zeaman  (SR, Chalfont, Pennsylvania) is the social media anchor and producer.  

“I feel a sense of accomplishment, seeing as this was my goal heading into senior year,” Walsh said. “I will be able to put this on my resume, and I know that it will be helpful for me when I graduate. I also am looking forward to building relationships with my team and am excited for what we can do.”  

“I’m really looking forward to working and growing together with my classmates throughout this semester,” Guenther said. “It’s so fun being able to learn from each other and form a bond in this process. I’m also super excited to be working with Professor Marra, Professor Scatterday and Professor Trinone. They are all extremely talented at what they do, and I couldn’t be more fortunate to be learning from such amazing and talented people.”

Aneissa Gallo (SR, Long Beach Island, New Jersey) is producing the show this semester, alongside assistant producer Harley Cochran (JR, Latrobe, Pennsylvania). Sean Petraitis (JR, Long Island, New York) is the show’s videographer and Fantasy Playbook social media producer and director.  

"I'm looking forward to working with a lot of great classmates I've had the privilege of being in class with for the last three years,” Gallo said. “There has been a lot of build-up regarding Mountaineer Playbook and it's certainly living up to the expectations."

“Mountaineer Playbook” is the capstone course for the Sports and Adventure Media major and is taught by Teaching Assistant Professor Ashton Marra, Teaching Instructor Anjelica Trinone and Shott Teaching Assistant Professor Chuck Scatterday.  

Throughout the semester, students produce five shows in preparation for careers in sports broadcasting. The course is in its 5th year and includes in-the-field reporting, live direction and production, in-studio camera operations and sports video reporting, covering all 18 Division I WVU athletic teams.  

"Mountaineer Playbook" airs statewide on West Virginia Public Broadcasting Sunday nights at 6:30 p.m. and on the City of Morgantown’s Public Access Channel 14 on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., Fridays at 5 p.m. and Saturdays at 6 p.m. It also streams on Pittsburgh's KDKA-TV's website and the HD Media website.
