The WVU School of Theatre and Dance presents the uproariously funny musical “Something Rotten!” from April 23-26 at the WVU Canady Creative Arts Center Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre. Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.”

In March, 19 WVU Dance majors and several faculty members traveled to Athens, Ohio, for the American College Dance Association East-Central Conference, hosted this year by Ohio University. During the conference, students and faculty have opportunities to present their own creative work for adjudication and feedback; attend workshops, classes and panel discussions with dance professionals; network with artists in the field and build connections and friendships with dancers from other higher ed institutions.

The WVU School of Theatre and Dance will perform “Sueño,” a tale of fate and free will, March 5-7 and March 10-13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gladys G. Davis Theatre at the Canady Creative Arts Center. “Sueño” is Jose Rivera’s adaptation of Pedro Calderon de la Barca’s 1630s play “La vida es sueño” (“Life is a dream”), blending romance and tragedy, drama and comedy, introspection and action.

The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) will make a stop at the WVU Canady Creative Arts Center to present “Shakespeare on Stage” with Music Director Maurice Cohn and onstage performances by WVU Theatre students Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m.

The WVU School of Theatre and Dance presents their flagship dance production, “Dance Now!” Feb. 5-7 at the Canady Creative Art Center Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre. Under the artistic direction of WVU Dance Director Yoav Kaddar, the program will feature performances and choreography by students, faculty and guest artists and companies. Runion, Woolley and Riggenbach shared their process and journey from “Celebration of Dance” to “Dance Now!”

“Celebration of Dance” is a student-led performance, where junior and senior Dance majors can choreograph their own pieces and manage the casting and rehearsals. The performances are typically held in late October or early November in the Antoinette E. Falbo Theatre in the WVU Canady Creative Arts Center. Guest adjudicators judge and rank the student-choreographed pieces and provide input to the WVU Dance faculty, who select five to 10 to be performed as part of “Dance Now!” in February.

The WVU School of Theatre and Dance presents “Amour,” a lighthearted musical, at the Gladys G. Davis Theatre at the WVU Canady Creative Arts Center Nov. 20-21 and Dec. 3-6 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for senior citizens and $10 each for groups of ten or more. The Dance program at the WVU School of Theatre and Dance in the College of Creative Arts and Media has received accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Dance.

When the curtains open on “Dracula, a feminist revenge fantasy, really.” on Oct. 23, audiences will see the culmination of nearly two months of hard work: the hundreds of hours spent in rehearsal, the fight and intimacy choreography, the set design and build, the vocal training, the costume design and more.
