The Outdoor Artists series offers free artmaking events for all ages every Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. through July. In the case of inclement weather or extreme temperatures, activities will be moved indoors.

Two retired WVU School of Medicine faculty members are embracing their passion for the arts and giving back to the University in a new way — by partnering to support the Art Museum of WVU. Dr. Stephen Wetmore and Dr. Mary Wimmer, both of Morgantown, jointly made a $100,000 gift to create a fund that supports the museum’s greatest needs.

Join the Art Museum of WVU for a series of summer events in the Nath Sculpture Garden. All events at the Art Museum are free and open to the public.

The Art Museum of WVU invites the community to take a last look at our exhibitions and enjoy an exclusive gallery talk with "Soft/Cover" co-curator DJ Hellerman, as well as a discussion with artist Aimee Koran, Thursday, April 30, from 4-7 p.m. Light hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served.

In March, Friends of the Art Museum of WVU traveled with several museum staff to Phoenix, Arizona, for several days of guided art tours, exclusive studio visits and musical performances.

In December 2025, the old floor-to-ceiling mural by Nina Chanel Abney that graced the wall in the Plevins Lobby of the Art Museum of WVU came down, and in January 2026, a new mural went up. Emilio Perez’s “Through the Valley” covers the enormous wall with graphic, colorful mountains and soft, swirling clouds.

The Art Museum of WVU Faculty Fellowship is an opportunity for faculty and instructors from across disciplines to enhance their teaching and scholarship by engaging with the museum’s permanent collection of more than 5,000 objects.

The Art Museum of WVU is launching its searchable collections database, putting the museum’s vast assortment of art and artifacts at users’ fingertips.

As the registrar for the Art Museum of WVU for the last eight years, Karen Louvar manages many of the behind-the-scenes tasks that keep the museum running smoothly.

The Art Museum of WVU invites the community to the opening reception for the spring 2026 exhibits, “Soft/Cover” and “Material Matters,” on Friday, Jan. 30, from 5-7 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Wine and light hors d’oeuvres will be served. Beginning on Jan. 31, the museum will be open 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Admission is always free.
