Undergraduate Art and Design Programs

We're excited for you to join our WVU School of Art and Design community, where you'll experience a tight-knit creative environment with the resources of a large university.

As part of the College of Creative Arts and Media, Art and Design students are able to hone their craft while collaborating across disciplines with other students and faculty.

If you're still in the decision phase, complete the Request Information form and our recruitment specialist will work with you to coordinate a visit to campus, connect you with a professor, arrange a class sit-in, and share other opportunities to help you decide if the WVU School of Art and Design is the right fit.

  1. STEP ONE:

    Apply to WVU

    All students must complete West Virginia University's application online. Visit apply.wvu.edu for admission standards and application details. Indicate on your WVU application that you are interested in a College of Creative Arts and Media major.

    Current WVU students who seek to change their major to the School of Art and Design should contact their current academic advisor to begin the process; you do not need to re-apply to WVU.

  2. STEP TWO:

    Submit Your Portfolio

    Students interested in the following programs must submit a portfolio and register for a portfolio review day:

    • Art and Design BFA
    • Art Education BFA
    • Art Therapy BA

    2025 Portfolio Review Dates:

    • Saturday, February 8, 2025

  3. STEP THREE:

    Register for Classes

    Upon acceptance to the WVU School of Art and Design, an advisor will contact you to register for courses.

Ag Sciences South and Annex

WVU's Agricultural Sciences Building and adjacent Agricultural Sciences Annex include newly renovated lab spaces and classrooms for Design Studies, Fashion Design and Merchandising, and Interior Architecture.

Amy A. Bircher Textiles Laboratory

The Amy A. Bircher Textiles Laboratory provides a space for students to use a variety of scientific testing to better understand what properties a fiber presents including its strengths, weaknesses, how it’s made, dyed and finished.

Art Museum of WVU

Ceramics Studio

In the ceramics studio, students learn hand-working and throwing techniques.

Douglas O. Blaney Lobby

Just inside the main entrance to the CCAC, the Blaney Lobby wraps around the Clay Concert Theatre and offers access to the Dean’s Office, Student Recruitment Office, School of Theatre & Dance Office and the Mesaros Galleries.

Fashion Design Studios

The Fashion Illustration Studio features equipment for hand-drawing and digital fashion illustration, digital flats and technical packages. The Fashion Design Studio provides workstations to learn essential skills in pattern design, layout and cutting, garment construction and draping techniques.

Laura and Paul Mesaros Galleries

The Mesaros Galleries serve to educate students, faculty, and staff across the university as well as the larger Morgantown community, with special emphasis on art majors and students of art history. Exhibitions focus on innovative, experimental art that advances scholarship and discourse in the field.
