Charles Beneke is a professor and the printmaking area coordinator at the University of Akron Myers School of Art. Beneke’s artwork addresses global warming.Using a broad range of print media, painting, video, and installation, he urges viewers to consider our accumulated effects and question when we will take responsibility for how we are changing the world by changing our behavior.

In March 2018 Pittsburgh PA will host the 52nd Annual National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, known in the art world as NCECA. This is a very exciting vibrant time for our region, as we expect thousands of ceramic artists and collectors to visit the conference.
As a prelude to this event, the Mesaros Galleries at West Virginia University will host an exhibition featuring ten nationally recognized ceramic artists. Contemporary Ceramics: Mix, Shape, Create, Repeat will feature a diverse array of ceramics both on and off the wall, mixing classic forms with new inventive techniques.

Lecture and Reception: January 25, 5pm
Dan Hernandez, painter, presents a skewed understanding of mythology, religion and violence, enlightened by popular culture. He blurs boundaries, rearranges hierarchies, and calls into question our notions of iconography and devotion. Genres from the recent and distant past collide with ease. He creates mixed media works recalling Renaissance and Byzantine art, and vintage video games.
