String Chamber Music Ensemble

String Chamber Music Ensemble participants will play in weekly rehearsals under the direction of the instructor as appropriate for their skill level.

Participants will build individual and ensemble performance skills, as well as interpersonal skills, through the repertoire preparation process. Chamber groups will have the opportunity to perform at a Community Music Program recital at the end of the semester.

Learning and Performance Goals

  • Develop ensemble performance skills, including but not limited to group rhythm, intonation, and movement.
  • Develop interpersonal skills for rehearsing chamber music effectively, including but not limited to healthy group decision making, giving and receiving constructive feedback on group performance, and balancing different personality types in a collaborative environment.
  • Grow individual performing ability on your instrument.
  • Prepare an ensemble piece for a public performance.

Required Materials

  • Instrument (Violin, Viola, Double Bass)
  • Sheet music in paper or PDF form (disseminated by the instructor by email)

Attendance Policy

A chamber group can’t function without all its members! Your timeliness to rehearsal affects everyone’s experience, not just your own. I expect all musicians to be present and ready to rehearse (instrument out and warmed up) by the start of class- therefore, musicians should arrive at the rehearsal location 5-10 minutes early. If you are unable to attend the rehearsal for any reason, please be sure to notify the Instructor at least 24 hours in advance. We will try to reschedule make-up rehearsals as needed based on participant and instructor availability. Please understand that no refunds will be issued for missed rehearsals.

Repertoire

Chamber musicians should expect to work on 1-2 pieces in a semester, with the possibility for more as time allows. Repertoire will be chosen by the instructor in collaboration with each chamber group and will be appropriately challenging.
