Learning Outcomes

By the end of this chamber group experience you will know how to:

  • Develop ensemble performance skills, including but not limited to: group rhythm, intonation, and movement
  • Learn interpersonal skills for rehearsing chamber music effectively, such as healthy group decision making, giving and receiving constructive feedback, and making music in a collaborative environment
  • Grow individual performing ability on your instrument
  • Prepare an ensemble piece for a public performance

Required Materials

  • Instrument (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, or their auxiliaries)
  • Sheet music in paper or PDF form (disseminated by the instructor by email)

Repertoire

Chamber musicians should expect to work on 1-2 pieces in a semester, with the possibility for more as time allows. Repertoire will be chosen by the instructor in collaboration with each chamber group and will be appropriately challenging.

Attendance

A chamber group is not able to function properly without all of its members! Your timeliness to rehearsal affects everyone's experience, not just your own. All musicians must be present and ready to rehearse (instrument out and warmed up) by the start of class. Therefore, musicians should arrive at the rehearsal location 5-10 minutes early. If you are unable to attend the rehearsal for any reason, please be sure to notify the instructor at least 24 hours in advance. We will try to reschedule make-up rehearsals as needed based on participant and instructor availability. Please understand that no refunds will be issued for missed rehearsals.

How do I prepare for the first rehearsal?

  • Print out your music, if disseminated electronically by the instructor
  • Listen to the assigned pieces a few times, following along with your part
  • Practice the part using a metronome and tuner so that you feel comfortable and confident performing in the presence of others

Reminder

A class is usually cancelled when registration is less than five (5) participants. In case of cancellation of the class, all students already enrolled will be notified immediately. Submit your registration form as soon as possible to ensure your spot. We will reach out to you to process payment closer to the first day of the group class.
